Book Updates
Afghan Memoir
The first drafts for both deployments are complete. I still need to add other people’s perspectives. Here’s what’s next:
Interviews: Hitting the homies up for phone calls.
Revision: Working on a second draft. Once that’s done, I’ll be adding non-1/7 81s stories.
Erebus
The working title for my first science fiction novel is Erebus. It’s basically my take on Halo: Combat Evolved told from the viewpoint of a Lance Corporal. The first draft was finished last month, and I’ll be working on the second draft later this month.
Books
What am I reading?
The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass—Stephen King: This series slaps.
The Hills by the Wadi—Danny Murphy: An excellent Afghan memoir that follows Marines from 1/8 81s in Musa Qala and Kajaki.
What have I read?
Starhammer by Christopher Rowley is the first novel in his “Vang” series. It was released in the 80’s and has been out of print since. So if you’re interested, you’ll have to find a copy on Amazon or read it online at archive.org. You can read my thoughts about it here at the blog.
Foundation by Isaac Asimov. The first book of a classic sci-fi series that explores humanity creating a “foundation” to preserve history and science in anticipation of an impending dark age. Will be doing a blog post about it.
Halo: Edge of Dawn continues the story from Halo: Infinite. Kelly Gay is a solid writer, but this book was very disappointing. No blog post.
